Holyrood House Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky
Description
Holyrood House is the second stop in our Heritage Series which offers a tour throughout Oatlands’ most iconic buildings, weaving a tale of dark but deeply colourful history. Like their namesakes, each cask-matured whisky in this series is complex, intriguing, and essentially flavoured by time.
Often referred to as the Doctor's House, this striking two-storey Georgian residence whispers tales of justice, learning, and healing amidst its stately facades. Constructed around 1840 for John White Ford, the police magistrate, the house was later a scholarly abode, hosting a school conducted by Rev. Trollope, a distant kin of novelist Anthony Trollope. It now stands as a testament to Oatlands' rich history.
The home, complete with its symmetrical three-bay brick facade and grand central entryway, was seamlessly passed from one significant owner to the next, each adding their own layer to its intriguing narrative. Surrounded by a historic garden lush with English trees, Holyrood House is among Oatlands' most illustrious buildings. In 1860, it found a new purpose as the home of Dr. Wells, and later Dr. Morehead, hence earning its local moniker, 'the Doctor's House.'
As Holyrood House has stood the test of time, this limited edition whisky aims to capture the essence of its enduring resilience, storied past, and timeless grandeur.
