Lake Frederick Inn is the seventh stop in our Heritage Series, which offers a tour throughout Oatlands’ most iconic buildings, weaving a tale of dark but deeply colourful history. Like their namesakes, each cask-matured whisky in this series is complex, intriguing, and essentially flavoured by time.
Lake Frederick Inn stands as an enduring legacy of Oatlands' heritage, a striking sandstone and brick testament to historical redemption. Built in 1833 by George Aitchison, a convict turned skilled tradesman, it illustrates a compelling tale of reformation.
Arriving in Van Diemen's Land in 1819, Aitchison, a stonemason, harnessed the skills learned in his previous life to contribute significantly to Oatlands' architectural landscape. He sculpted this inn using local materials - stone and 50,000 handmade bricks, becoming a beacon of resilience and craftsmanship.
In 1834, John Jubilee Vincent, progeny of Callington Mill's founder, became its first licensee. The inn transformed over time, earning the monikers of Lake Dulverton Inn and White Horse Inn post-1853, each iteration adding a new layer to its intriguing narrative.
Today, the inn, a distinctive silhouette on High Street, persists in authentic condition, securing its place on the National Estate Register as an iconic early coaching inn. This limited edition whisky honours the enduring spirit of Lake Frederick Inn, the remarkable craftsmanship of its creator, and its timeless allure.

TASTING NOTES
Colour: Rich golden straw
Nose: Upfront oak on the nose, honey, marzipan, caramel and nutmeg with a burnt orange characteristic.
Palate: Oak dominant with burnt orange, salted caramel, star anise and hints of ginger balance the heat of cask strength alcohol.
Finish: Caramel and toffee notes with a fresh flinty finish.
Cask: Moscatel.
